Where it all began

In 1981, archaeological excavations during the restoration and extension of Oude Werf revealed parts of the original church foundations beneath the hotel, including early graves connected to the site’s earliest years in Stellenbosch. Take a peek beneath the kitchen and discover one of the earliest layers of Stellenbosch history, connecting today’s Oude Werf to the people who walked these grounds more than 300 years ago.
