If you make one resolution for 2017, let it be to start every day with a cleansing smoothie!

Those wonderful indulgences during the festive season can come at a cost. Our livers take a real pummelling. So it is not surprising that a January detox has become an annual ritual for many. Here is Chef Jeromy’s favourite detox smoothie recipe. Get ready to be energised!

Whizz together in a food processor or liquidiser, the following ingredients:

1 banana, peeled and chopped
1 handful of English spinach, washed
1 stick of celery, chopped
2 leaves cos lettuce, chopped
half a cup chopped cucumber (skin on)
fresh lemon juice
slice of ginger
1 pear, peeled, seeded and chopped
mint leaves
quarter teaspoon chai seeds
quarter teaspoon turmeric
quarter teaspoon cayenne pepper
quarter teaspoon cinnamon
honey to taste
